Coming in 2016, Orphans, the first in a series of full-length novels about the Saturni, the Skin Eaters, and the mysterious young woman who may be the savior… or the destroyer…of them all.

When Nina Lamb enters the Daedalus School in the spring after Hurricane Katrina, she arrives there as a virtual, and maybe even literal, lamb to the slaughter.  But Nina is far more than she appears.  A true Creole, with a complex mingling of races behind her dark skin and eyes, Nina is also an amnesiac, with no memory of how she arrived in New Orleans or even who she is.

Shadowy forces suggest she belongs at this elite school for orphans, where children are groomed to be adopted by aristocratic Skin Eaters.  But in a world where genders are fluid, rules are shadowy, magic is outlawed, and the Saturni rule with an iron hand, how can Nina survive to develop her extraordinary powers?  And what will be the effect on the emotional equilibrium of a certain tall dark handsome Assistant Headmaster?

Full of the same mystery, black humor, blunt horror, and sudden beauty as Tales of the Saturni, Orphans will take you for the ride of your life.

Yes, I’m scared. It got even worse when I went to YouTube and searched for Niburu, Elohim, The Saturni Society, and all the rest. I look forward to more of the information gathered by A.P.Bowman during his travels. Where is he? How old is he? Is he even alive at all? Who are you people… REALLY?

Response to Cliff (from May 23, 2012 @ 18:55): you are so right. Although “Silver Spoon” was written by Paul Kantner, it’s Grace Slick’s delivery that convinces me of both their memberships among the SkinEeaters at least.

    “Silver Spoon” by Paul Kantner

Throw down all your silver spoons
Eat all the raw meat with your hands
Pick it up piece by piece
Pick it up piece by piece
Pick it up piece by piece

Where are the bodies for dinner?
    I want my food!

What if you were starving to death and the only food you had was me?
What would you say to the cannibal question?
Would your answer be perfectly free?

Where are the bodies for dinner?
    I want my food!

You could leave to dine on your friends
Pour their bones into a cannibal soup
Muscles like like steak, blood like wine
Save the brains to feed the troops

Your mama told you never to eat your friends
With your fingers and your hands,
Buy I say you ought to eat what you will
Shove it in you mouth any way that you can.
